Modems: An introduction
There are 2 basic types of modems:
1.ACOUSTICALLY COUPLED
These are the oldest type of modems:
they use the microphone and earpiece
in your telephone handset to send and
receive data. They are very prone to
interference, and are not often used.
2.DIRECT-CONNECT
These plug into the telephone line,
and your handset (if needed) plugs
into the back of the modem(!).
All modern modems, including the
Prism Modem 2000, are of this type.
