Food Colourings (E100 series)
There are many products that have
been approved for use in enhancing the
colour of food and most of them have
been in use for many years.
Some foods lose so much of their
natural colour during processing that
they become unattractive to eat. This
is particularly the case with canned
food. The use of permitted colourings
enables a more acceptable product to be
prepared.
The natural colour of some cheese
varies depending on the food the cattle
receive. The use of a colourings allows
cheese to have the same appearance
throughout the year.
