Offline Database

Healthdata was also available as a disc based offline database, also in the viewdata format.  It seems as if it was mostly a copy of the online content, so we present it here for your delight and access..

    Phosphates

    Detergents and washing powders often
contain phosphates as a water softener.
Phosphates are also used extensively by
farmers and are present in industrial
 waste.

Much of this phosphate ends up in
 rivers and, like nitrate, contributes
 to the overgrowth of algae.

It is possible to make effective
 detergents that don't contain phosphate
and these are widely used in other
 countries.

Some treatment works are able to
 remove phosphates from water.
