Tuberculosis BCG vaccination BCG vaccine is safe and effective in protecting against tuberculosis. There are still many cases of TB in children in some parts of the country. In these areas it is now the policy to offer BCG vaccination to all babies at the age of 6 weeks. In all areas schoolchildren of 13 are checked to see if they require BCG. The vaccination is a small injection which results in a small sore which may blister and leave a small scar. Your health visitor or doctor will be able to answer your questions.
