----------------------- Threadworms What are they? Threadworms are white and about half an inch in length. They live in the bowel and are sometimes seen in stools. What are the symptoms? They can cause itching near the anus especially at night, but often cause no symptoms at all. How do you catch them? The worms lay eggs on the skin around the anus. These eggs can get onto your hands, clothing or even carpets and may find their way onto food. If the eggs reach the bowel they hatch into worms which in turn will lay more eggs. It is for this reason that infection usually involves whole families. ---------------------- key # to cont.
