Gateway. Only the second Pohl book I've
read, and I hated the first. Slight
bias was therefore inevitable when I
started the book. Gateway, the centre-
piece of the whole book, is, to quote
the jacket 'an asteroid-cum-spaceport
full of ships'. The ships are capable
FTL travel, and are therefore mankind's
route to the stars. This is of course,
not at all simple, especially if you
