DTR is connected, actually. The modem
would answer before the host was ready
all the time, otherwise. (The fact
that it does this occasionally for
people calling from System X who redial
too soon is a feature, hehe...)
RI and DCD are used to tell the host
that there is an incoming call and that
carrier has been established. The beeb
uses CTS for both these functions.
