Whooping Cough Vaccination This vaccine should be given with Diptheria Tetanus and Polio vaccine at 3, 5 & 9 months. Whooping cough is a serious disease in young children causing a severe and spasmodic cough which often leads to pneumonia. Many children are admitted to hospital with whooping cough and it causes several deaths each year. The vaccine has a small risk (about 1 in 100,000) of leading to a form of brain disorder and is contra-indicated in some children.
