Those curious "V" numbers
The "V" numbers (V22,V23 etc) refer to
standards defined by CCITT, the
International Telephone and Telegraph
Consultative Committee.
The numbers currently range from V1 to
V57, and they cover a wide range of
subjects in the telecomms arena, not
just modem characteristics!
We'll look at the ones you're most
likely to encounter in use with
Prestel, but first let's explain a few
other terms that are used in this
field.
