Healthdata was also available as a disc based offline database, also in the viewdata format.  It seems as if it was mostly a copy of the online content, so we present it here for your delight and access..

    Sulphur Dioxide - Acid Rain

     Sulphur dioxide, mainly produced by
 power stations, factories and motor
 vehicles, is dispersed long distances
in the atmosphere. When combined with
water, a mild acid is formed. This acid
rain has been blamed for a great deal
 of environmental damage to forests,
 rivers and lakes.

Not all scientists agree that this
damage is entirely due to acid rain,
but sulphur dioxide pollution is still
a major concern. Steps are being taken
to reduce emissions from factories and
power stations. It is likely that new
 leglislation will be introduced to
 further control this problem.
