SCABIES Scabies is a skin disease caused by mites which burrow under the skin and cause severe itching, especially at night. The mites spread from person to person and to stop them it is essential to treat the family and close contacts. The signs of scabies are quite hard to recognise and you will probably want to consult your doctor. The mites often burrow between the fingers, under the arms, on the wrists and knees, around the waist and in the groins. Treatment is with a special lotion obtainable from chemists.
