Offline Database

Healthdata was also available as a disc based offline database, also in the viewdata format.  It seems as if it was mostly a copy of the online content, so we present it here for your delight and access..

Do note that this information is at least 20 years old.  Please do not rely on anything in here as current medical advice; for that please visit the NHS website.

   Eat more fibre

Fibre is important in the diet and
you can eat as much as you like! Most
fibre is not absorbed so it can stop
you feeling hungry without putting on
 weight!

    An adequate fibre intake prevents
 constipation. Shortage of fibre may
lead to piles, varicose veins and some
 forms of bowel cancer.

Fibre is present in fruit, cereals,
 vegetables and pulses. Unfortunately
many processed foods have had much of
the fibre removed. There is no fibre in
animal products like meat, fish, eggs
 or meat
